Do You Tip a Boudoir Photographer? Let’s Talk About It
One of the more common (and kind of adorable!) questions I get from clients is: “Do I tip my boudoir photographer?”
First off, awww, you’re so thoughtful for even wondering! I love that you want to show appreciation for the experience, and it’s a great question because tipping in photography can feel a little different than tipping at a restaurant or a salon. So let’s break it down.
The Short Answer: Tipping Is Never Expected, But Always Appreciated
Boudoir photography is a professional service, but it also lives in this special space where it’s part luxury experience, part creative art, and part confidence-boosting celebration. Because of that, tipping etiquette isn’t one-size-fits-all.
Here’s the deal:
✨ Not required – Your session fee covers my time, expertise, editing, and everything we agreed on.
✨ Always appreciated – If you feel like I went above and beyond, a tip is a sweet way to say “thank you” in the moment.
Other Ways People Show Appreciation
Not everyone tips with cash and that’s totally okay! Some of the most meaningful “tips” I’ve ever received have been in the form of:
A heartfelt note or review (Seriously, I might cry happy tears every time!)
Referring your friends – This is basically the ultimate compliment.
Booking another session (Best. Tip. Ever.)
When Clients Do Tip
If you’re the kind of person who loves tipping for great service, you’re not alone. Some clients slip me $50–$100 at the end of their session, especially if they’ve also had hair and makeup done and they’re feeling amazing. If you’d like to tip your hair and makeup artist, you can do it directly with cash or Venmo, or you can tip them through me by telling me how much you’d like to send to them.
So… Should You Tip?
Here’s my honest answer: Do what feels good for you. If you want to tip, I’ll absolutely appreciate it (and probably blush). If you’d rather write a glowing Google review, that’s equally magical for my little photographer heart.
TLDR: If you’re searching for “Do you tip a boudoir photographer?” in Los Angeles or beyond, know this—tipping is never required, but always a thoughtful way to show love. Whether it’s through a tip, a review, or sending your best friend my way, every gesture means the world.
